The Lapeer County Community Foundation is dedicated to attracting and managing permanently endowed funds serving a wide range of charitable purposes in order to strengthen the quality of life in Lapeer County . As part of the Foundation's focus on education, we maintain a growing scholarship program.
Scholarship Information
- Applications are available at area schools, on our website, or by contacting the LCCF office. Be sure your application states “Updated February, 2012” on the bottom of page 2.
- An application will not be considered unless all questions are completed and all required information is furnished.
- Students should be prepared to participate in a brief interview should the scholarship selection committee so desire.
- If selected for any scholarship, students are expected to assume the following obligations:
- Provide an email copy of his/her grade report at the end of each semester or term and an official transcript at the end of the year to the Foundation.
- Maintain the minimum grade-point average requirement of your scholarship.
- Maintain an enrollment of sufficient credit hours to qualify as a full-time student at his/her school unless the scholarship specifically allows for part-time status.
- Notify the Foundation of any change in college plans including interruption of attendance, transfer to another college, or dropping enrollment.
- If transferring, furnish LCCF with an official statement of admission from the new institution.

The Lapeer County Community Foundation is pleased to offer the following 2012 general application scholarships to students who reside in Lapeer County. Application deadline March 15, 2012.
Ross P. Broesamle Education Fund - established to support educational assistance to students from Almont Township or the Village of Almont; and the Township of Dryden or the Village of Dryden. Applicants must reside in the geographic areas stated and be accepted or enrolled in an accredited state approved degree granting institution. The basis for the scholarship award is financial need and scholastic record. Annual awards are minimum $500.00.
Wayne Hildebrant Police Scholarship Fund - established to provide scholarships to an accredited police academy or college/university law enforcement program. The purpose of the fund is to support education in the law enforcement field in memory of Wayne Hildebrant, long time Metamora police chief. Applicants must be residents of Lapeer County, accepted into an accredited police academy or college/university law enforcement program, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and show financial need. Annual award is $500.00 and may be used for tuition, books, and fees.
Lapeer County Medical Fund - established to promote various medical related purposes, including scholarship. Applicants must be residents of Lapeer County, be accepted into and enrolled in an accredited medical program and maintain a 3.2 GPA. Awards may be used for tuition and books. Preference is given to applicants based on financial need.

Individual Scholarships
The Lapeer County Community Foundation is pleased to offer the following 2011
individual scholarships for graduating high school seniors in Lapeer County.
New Foundation scholarships:
Chapter DX P.E.O. Scholarship – With Philanthropic Education Organization chapters in the United States and Canada, the Lapeer area chapter established this endowed fund to support the higher education of women. Annual award: $500.00 *
Daley Acres Agricultural Memorial Scholarship– In memory of J. Clifford “Kip” Daley and Thomas J. Daley, the fund awards scholarships to Lapeer County students pursuing a career in agriculture. Annual award: $5,000.00. Deadline March 15.*

LakeVille Memorial High School Alumni Scholarship – Established by graduates of LakeVille High School, this scholarship is for graduating seniors of LakeVille High School. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and volunteer, community, and extracurricular activities are strongly considered. Annual award: $500.00. Deadline March 15. *

Clarke B. Adams Memorial Scholarship - The Clarke B. Adams Memorial Fund was created in memory of Clarke Bevan Adams. The Fund also includes a memorial for Clarke's friend, Richard (Dick) Allen Rickett. Both Clarke and Dick grew up in Lapeer and graduated from Lapeer High School. This memorial is funded by the family, friends and colleagues of Clarke and Dick as a living tribute to them.
Applicant must be a graduating senior of Lapeer East or Lapeer West High School. Preference given to applicants who have lost an immediate family member (p lease include any pertinent information in your application), however, all students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Check with the counseling office for the 2012 application and deadline. Annual award: (5) - $1,000 scholarships
Jack and Carolyn Griffin Memorial Scholarship – Established as a living tribute to Walter and Fern Griffin by son and daughter-in-law Jack and Carolyn Griffin. Applicant must be a graduating North Branch High School senior. Preference will be given to students who exhibit excellent attendance, honesty, and sensitivity and service to others. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 required for secondary studies. Annual award: 5 - $1,000.00 scholarships. Application deadline March 15. *

Philip Hart Scholarship – The Philip Hart Scholarship Fund honors the life and work of Michigan’s U.S. Senator Philip Hart, who served from 1959 to 1976. Known as the “Conscience in the Senate,” he was a leader in the fight for the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and other progressive legislation of his era. Philip Hart Scholarship will be offered at both Lapeer East and Lapeer West. Half of the awards ($2,000 for a Lapeer East student and $1,000 for a Lapeer West student) will be issued at the beginning of freshman year. The balance will be available for the second year, following satisfactory completion of the first year. Check with the counseling office for the 2012 application and deadline.
Jacob N. Johnson Scholarship – The Jacob N. Johnson Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 in memory of Jacob Johnson, beloved son of Morris and Suzette Johnson of Lapeer. Jacob attended Lapeer East High School and would have graduated in 2009. Preference given to applicant who is a transplant patient, a transplant donor, part of the immediate family of a transplant recipient, or facing a significant health challenge; however all students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.
Applicant must be a graduating senior of Lapeer East or Lapeer West and must exhibit excellent characteristics of leadership, community service, and artistic ability. Annual award: $500.00. Application due March 15. *

John Sak Memorial Scholarship Fund – The John Sak Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of long-time Lapeer educator John Sak and is awarded to a graduating senior or graduate of Lapeer Schools. Cumulative GPA 3.25 or higher required for secondary studies. Financial condition of the applicant also considered. Annual award: $500.00. Application due March 15. *

Irma Gelhausen Scholarship -The Irma Gelhausen Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 as a memorial to Irma Gelhausen, life-long educator and volunteer in Lapeer County. Preference will be given to graduates of Lapeer Community Schools and those pursuing a career in elementary education studies, although applicants pursuing a career in secondary education will be considered as well. Award amounts vary. *

Hazel Simms Nursing Scholarship – The Hazel Simms Nursing Fund was established to provide nursing scholarships for deserving students who are residents of Lapeer County, Michigan. Applicants must have completed one year or more of college and have been accepted into a nursing program approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing. Awards may be used to pay tuition and textbook expenses.
All blanks must be completed on the application. Write N/A on any blank line. Director/Faculty statement by the member of Nursing Program and required transcripts must be mailed directly to the Lapeer County Community Foundation. Additional information felt to be of interest to the scholarship committee may be included with application. Award amounts vary.

Ronald C. Warner Scholarship - The Ronald C. Warner Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 as a memorial to Ronald C. Warner, whose career in education spanned over 41 years. An outstanding leader, he volunteered much of his time to many people and groups in Lapeer County. Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in education and agriculture, and graduates of Lapeer Community Schools. Students must be in the third or more year of college/university studies and a current resident of Lapeer County. Annual award: $1,000.00. *
