The Lapeer County Community Foundation is dedicated to attracting and managing permanently endowed funds serving a wide range of charitable purposes in order to strengthen the quality of life in Lapeer County . As part of the Foundation's focus on education, we maintain a growing scholarship program.
General Scholarship Information
1) The Lapeer County Community Foundation makes scholarship applications available to individuals on request and local schools. Students may type, print, or utilize a computer to complete their application. Be sure your application states Updated February, 2010 on the bottom of page 2.
2) Complete application forms should be submitted by April 15th for the following fall semester to:

3) Students should complete all questions and obtain all required documents(transcripts, test scores, photos, federal tax returns for self or family).
4) Students should be prepared to participate in a brief interview, should the scholarship selection committee so desire.
5) If selected for any scholarship, students are expected to assume the following obligations:
- Provide a copy of his/her grade report at the end of each semester or term and an official transcript at the end of the school year to the Community Foundation.
- Maintain a minimum grade-point average equivalent to a 2.5 on a scale of 4.0.
- Maintain an enrollment of sufficient credit hours to qualify as a full-time student at his/her college or university, unless the scholarship specifically allows for part-time status.
- Notify the Community Foundation of any change in college plans including interruption of attendance, transfer to another college, or discontinuance of college.
- Scholarship recipients who transfer to another college are expected to provide the Community Foundation with an official statement from that college, indicating that he/she has been granted admission.

The Lapeer County Community Foundation is pleased to offer the following
2010 general application scholarships to students who reside in Lapeer County.
Lapeer County Medical Fund - established to promote various medical
related purposes, including scholarship. Applicants must be residents of
Lapeer County, be accepted into and enrolled in an accredited medical
program and maintain a 3.2 GPA. Awards may be used for tuition and
books. Preference is given to applicants based on financial need.
Applications due April 15.
Ross P. Broesamle Education Fund - established to support educational
assistance to students (at least one male and one female) from Almont
Township or the Village of Almont; and the Township of Dryden or the
Village of Dryden. Applicants must reside in the geographic areas
stated and be accepted or enrolled in an accredited state approved
degree granting institution. The basis for the scholarship award is
financial need and scholastic record. Applications due April 15.
Wayne Hildebrant Police Scholarship Fund - established to provide
scholarships to an accredited police academy or college/university law
enforcement program. The purpose of the fund is to support education in
the law enforcement fields with an annual $500.00 scholarship in memory
of Wayne Hildebrant, long time Metamora police chief. Applicants must be
residents of Lapeer County, accepted into an accredited police academy
or college/university law enforcement program, have a cumulative GPA of
3.0 or higher, and show financial need. Awards may be used for tuition,
books, and fees. Applications due April 15.
Individual Scholarships
The Lapeer County Community Foundation is pleased to offer the following 2010
individual scholarships for graduating high school seniors in Lapeer County.
New in 2010:
Jacob N. Johnson Scholarship Fund -established in 2009 in memory of Jacob
Johnson, beloved son of Morris and Suzette Johnson of Lapeer. Jacob
attended Lapeer East High School and would have graduated in 2009, the first
year of the scholarship award. Preference will be given to any student who
is a transplant patient, a transplant donor, part of the immediate family
of a transplant recipient, or facing a significant health challenge.
Selection criteria:
1) The student must be a graduating senior enrolled in Lapeer Community Schools.
2) Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher for secondary studies.
3) Current resident of Lapeer County.
4) Student must exhibit excellent characteristics of leadership, community
service, and artistic ability.
5) Factors that the Scholarship Selection Committee in their discretion
feel are appropriate in furthering the purposes of the scholarship.
6) Scholarship may be used for tuition, books and fees.

The Clarke B. Adams Memorial Foundation
Lapeer County Community Foundation Fund
The Clarke B. Adams Memorial Foundation was created in memory of Clarke Bevan Adams. The Foundation also includes a memorial for Clarke's friend, Richard (Dick) Allen Rickett. Both Clarke and Dick grew up in Lapeer, were involved in school and community activities, graduated from Lapeer High School in 1970, and graduated from Central Michigan University with degrees in business. The Foundation is funded by the family, friends and colleagues of Clarke and Dick as a living tribute to them.
The Foundation will award 5 - $1,000 scholarships in 2010.
Selection Criteria:
1) The student must be graduating at the end of the current school year, from Lapeer East or Lapeer West High school .
2) Must be accepted and planning to enroll in an accredited post secondary college, university or trade school.
3) The applicant must have a 2.50 or better grade point average based on a 4.0 scale. The difficulty of the curriculum will be considered.
4) Complete the application - please type or print neatly in black ink & attach:"
a) Official Transcript, including ACT and MME scores (attached by school counselor)
b) Student Activities Resume, (model is attached and must be limited to two pages single sided) listing your leadership positions, school extra-curricular activities, community activities, recognition and awards, and work experience."
5) Write an essay that responds to both of the following: (a) What are your immediate and long-term goals? (b) People and events shape our lives, name one person or event that has influenced yours and why. Include any special circumstances that should be considered in evaluating your application. Please limit to two pages, one-sided, typed and double-spaced.
6) Applicants who have lost an immediate family member may be given a unique consideration when this scholarship is awarded. Include any pertinent information in your application. However, we encourage all students to apply for this scholarship.
7) Sign and date the application, authorizing the copying of this application for the selection committee and releasing of your high school transcript (through 2 nd trimester of senior year).
8) A personal interview may be requested.
9) Letter of recommendation from a teacher or community leader stating your personal qualities.
Completed applications should be submitted to your school counselor by Monday, April 26, 2010 . Submit to Mrs. Wilmers at Lapeer East immediately after attaching required information.

The Lapeer County Community Foundation is pleased to offer the following 2010
scholarships for individuals entering their third or fourth year of post graduate
studies.
Irma Gelhausen Scholarship Fund -The Irma Gelhausen Scholarship Fund was
established in 2005 as a memorial to Irma Gelhausen, life-long educator
in Lapeer County. After retirement from Lapeer Community Schools where
she was principal of Irwin Elementary, Irma Gelhausen continued to tutor
and teach at Saginaw Valley State University and was an active volunteer
for the PIX Arts Council, Friends of the Library, and the Lapeer County
Community Foundation. She was named 2005 Citizen of the Year by the
Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce.
Fund Criteria: To advance the values of community education through the
development and encouragement of teachers who best emulate the qualities
of commitment to well-rounded education and social values at the
elementary level.
1) Of either sex regardless of race, color, religion, age or physical
disabilities.
2) Acceptance into an accredited four year state approved degree
granting institution.
3) Pursuing a career in elementary or secondary education (Preference
given to those in elementary education studies.)
Scholarship Selection Criteria:
1) Students must be in the third or more year of college/university
studies
2) Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for post secondary studies
3) Preference given to graduates of Lapeer Community Schools
4) Financial condition of applicant and his/her family
5) Resident of Lapeer County.
6) Factors that the Scholarship Selection Committee in their discretion
feel are appropriate in furthering the purposes of the scholarship
7) Scholarship may be used for tuition, books and fees.

Hazel Simms Nursing Scholarship - established to provide nursing
scholarships for deserving students who are residents of Lapeer County,
Michigan. The purpose of the endowment is to promote and foster the
education of persons accepted by registered nursing programs and
registered nurses accepted into Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs
in Michigan. Scholarship applicants must have completed one year or more
of college and have been accepted into a nursing program to be eligible.
Awards may be used to pay tuition and textbook expenses.

Application Instructions for the Hazel Simms Nursing Scholarship:
Applicants of the Hazel Simms Nursing Scholarship shall be any
persons who have been accepted into a Michigan registered nursing
program approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing. Applicants already
certified as Registered Nurses who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Nursing shall also be eligible. Applicants must have completed
one year or more of college. Only current residents (90 days or longer)
of the following school districts are eligible to receive funds from the
scholarship: Almont, Dryden, Imlay, Lakeville, Lapeer and North Branch.
Application shall be submitted on the official forms provided by the
Hazel Simms Nursing Scholarship Fund and completed by the applicant.
The Scholarship Committee will not review any application received after the
deadline of April 15. All blanks must be completed on the application. Write
N/A on any blank line. Type or print clearly. Director/Faculty statement by the
member of Nursing Program and required transcripts must be mailed directly to
the Lapeer County Community Foundation. Include a current photo to be
utilized for publicity should an award be given. You may send any additional
information you feel would be of interest to the Scholarship Committee. The
student must apply for this scholarship annually unless the student is not
already in the last year of the program at the time of the original
award.
Ronald C. Warner Scholarship - The Ronald C. Warner Scholarship Fund was
established in 2008 as a memorial to Ronald C. Warner, whose career in
education spanned over 41 years. He was an outstanding leader and volunteered
much of his time to many people and groups in Lapeer County.
Fund Criteria: To advance the values of Lapeer County's education through the
development and encouragement of higher education in the fields of education
or agriculture.
1. Of either sex regardless of race, color, religion, age or physical
disabilities
2. Acceptance into an accredited four year state approved degree granting
institution
3. Pursuing a career in agriculture or education (Preference given to
those involved in both fields.)
Scholarship Selection Criteria:
1. Students must be in the third or more year of college/university
studies.
2. Cumulative GPA of 2.4 or higher for post secondary studies
3. Preference given to graduates of Lapeer Community Schools
4. Current resident of Lapeer County

7. Scholarship may be used for tuition, books and fees.

The Lapeer County Community Foundation is a permanent endowment
established to benefit the residents of Lapeer County forever. With
assets now at almost $7 million, the Lapeer County Community Foundation
has awarded over $1 million in grants since its inception in 1996.
Scholarships are awarded annually.
The Lapeer County Community Foundation is pleased to announce its 2009

The Lapeer County Medical Fund, established in 1997, was created in
memory of Herbert M. Best M.D. to further the advancement of medical
science and education.

The Ross P. Broesamle Educational Fund,started by Ross P. Broesamle to honor

$374,500 in scholarships have been awarded from this fund since its inception!
