The Women's Fund is a unique legacy established by the generosity of one hundred founding women who want to make a difference in our community. These special women continue the tradition of leadership and service to the Lapeer community by shaping the present and future just as their mothers and grandmothers did before. The Women's Fund will be used each year to make grants supporting and enhancing the lives of women and their children in areas of health, human service, education, and enrichment.
“Every woman must have a purse of her own . . .”
When Elizabeth Cady Stanton declared that every woman must have a purse of her own, she may not have considered how her words would continue to resonate through the ages. She lived in a world in which women could not inherit property from their parents or husband, could not vote, and were not encouraged to have careers outside the home.
Today we take for granted the right to inherit property, to vote, to makedecisions for ourselves--both personally and professionally. Women have historically contributed to their families and communities through volunteerism. Today, the Lapeer County Community Foundation Women's Fund can provide a unique opportunity for women to find their “philanthropic voice.” The Women's Fund is designed to be a celebration of our past, the voice for our present, and our gift to the future. As an endowed fund, the Women's Fund provides a permanent legacy for the future of women in Lapeer County . We invite all women in our community to make a gift to this endowed fund. The Foundation can assist you to find an appropriate level of giving to meet your individual needs.
2007 Women's Fund Annual Luncheon
The Women's Fund Annual Luncheon was held Thursday, September 13 at Castaways on the shore of Lake Nepessing. Seventy-three Founders, Friends and guests enjoyed a choice of entrees, fellowship and fun while raising monies for our mini-grant program. Our speaker Betty McCauley from Chatfield School related the new “green” building technologies used in current construction of their nature center.
The Women's Fund continues its Outfits for the Office program in conjunction with the United Way Help Center and LACADA. The store is now owned by Lapeer TeamWork, Inc. Women's Fund members can donate good, clean office apparel-dress suits, pants suits, slacks, blouses, blazers, etc. for Lapeer women who are returning to the work force or interviewing for a new job. Call the Foundation office at 810-664-0691 for more information.
The Women's Fund scholarship program to help with books, fees, child care and transportation costs for Lapeer County women attending Mott Community College will begin in January. Watch this website for applications and more information.

What is a Friend?
Friends are special donors that are continuing the tradition of our 100 Founders. The Women's Fund was established with the generous support of one hundred visionary women of Lapeer. Coming from all walks of life, representing multiple generations, our Founders share a common vision…to build a permanent resource that will help women and their families now and long into the future. With the fund now established, we ask you to help us ensure its continued success.
Become a Friend with an outright gift of $500.00 or a 5-year pledge of $100.00 per year. As a Friend your gift will be held in endowment, building the permanent legacy of the Women's Fund that will be passed on to future generations of Lapeer County women. Only the earnings will be distributed, but as the Women's Fund grows, so does our ability to help.

Be a Funder?
As a Funder, your gift will be used immediately to support the Mini-Grant Program. Working in partnership with local non-profit organizations and agencies, our Mini-Grants address emergency needs for Lapeer County women and their families or give these women the tools they need to improve their lives.
Although the dollar amounts for the mini-grants are modest, the impact in human terms is huge. With each Mini-Grant Award, we send a message to the recipient that they are not alone; there are many Lapeer County women who care.
Become a Funder with a gift of any dollar amount. Your gift will be utilized now! All gifts to the Women's fund are tax deductible for Federal income tax purposes, but gifts to the mini-grant program are not eligible for the Michigan State Income Tax Credit.

The Women's Fund is looking for agency partners in our mini-grant program. The mini-grant program is to meet Lapeer County needs of women and their children in areas of “crisis concern”—a last resort and/or emergency funding for women and their children in need who do not meet criteria for agency funding. These grants will be made to women and their children who “fall through the cracks” of the agency network. Mini-grant requests must be for less than $1,000.
As a reminder, we seek partners who would:
1) Refer grant requests that can not be funded through any other agency program. These grant requests would have met your agency screening standards but not qualify for funding due to federal regulations, amounts, time period, etc. (Also enclosed is a sample Mini-Grant Application that would be forwarded to the Foundation.)
2) Receive payment of funds for individual mini-grants and then make payment to the proper individual or business. In order to receive payment, checks would have to be able to be written within a 7 day period. Our goal is to make the mini-grants very time sensitive.
3) Both refer grant requests and receive payment of funds.

A mini-grant application can only be submitted by a Partner Organization/Agency.
